Rob Dyer S4C

Skate4Cancer was born out of love and a dream. In 2003 we got a call from a kid in Toronto. He liked C1RCAs and was planning a skate trip across North America to raise money for cancer awareness. Could we send him a box of shoes? Rob Dyer would eventually skate across most of North America for his non profit group Skate4Cancer whose goal is to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and prevention. Proceeds from the sale of C1RCA x Skate4Cancer products will go to Princess Margaret Hospital, whose research is on the cutting edge of cancer prevention. Dream . Love . Cure.

Inspiration

My inspiration was personal, having lost family and friends to cancer. I’m also inspired by the kids I’ve met through S4C who live with the disease everyday. I’ve also drawn motivation from a famous Canadian icon, Terry Fox, who, after being diagnosed with cancer and having lost a leg to the disease, set off on a marathon across Canada to raise money and awareness for the cause. This was my intention – to skate across North America in an effort to raise awareness. This is how Skate4Cancer came about.

Working Environment

On the road, living and working out of our van, I really love working that way. Over the years S4Cs involvement in the music scene has grown into an annual tour called ‘The Cure Is Knowledge’. The events are all ages and admission is free. Our mission with The Cure Is Knowledge is to educate the youth of today about cancer prevention. At Skate4Cancer events, we arm kids with the education to detect cancer at the early stages of development and methods of preventing the disease through a healthy lifestyle. I feel like we are able to take something new from each city and add it to what we do.

Motivation

We hope that through ‘The Cure Is Knowledge’ we will help to educate the youth of today about cancer prevention and become part of the solution. We may not raise enough money to change the world, but we may raise enough people to change the world. We do this out of love.
